Marinda Freeman

Marinda is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker at Family Services working within the Counseling Unit and with the Children’s Advocacy Center. Marinda has a special interest in serving young children, adolescents, and helping individual’s and families find purpose, direction and peace. Marinda works with individuals who have been diagnosed with Autism, are experiencing stress, anger, anxiety, depression, trauma, forms of abuse and other life challenges. She strives to journey alongside her clients as they get in touch with their underlying needs, explore barriers to change and develop coping strategies. Marinda aims to empower clients by finding creative solutions that are person-centered. In therapy, Marinda uses strengths-based, solution-focused, mindfulness, trauma informed, cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), dialectical behavioral therapy (DBT), and a variety of other interventions and strategies to best meet the needs of the individual. When working with children she incorporates expressive art and play therapy in combination with parent sessions. Marinda has over 12 years of experience serving children, adolescents, families and adults within mental health agencies, residential facilities, hospital and outpatient settings. Before joining Family Services, she has served individuals and families by providing Intensive-In-Home therapy, individual therapy, and leading and developing support groups. She currently partners with the Child Advocacy Center and co facilitates a Caregiver Support Group for caregivers of children who have experienced sexual abuse.

Marinda obtained a Master’s in Social Work from University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, and her Bachelor’s degree from University of North Carolina at Greensboro. She is certified in Trauma-Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (TF-CBT) and play therapy.
