This month is Domestic Violence Awareness Month. According to the North Carolina Coalition Against Domestic Violence, last year there were 53 people killed as a result of domestic violence across the state. So far this year, there have already been 44 victims.

On Friday afternoon, Family Services and the Winston-Salem Police Department teamed up to honor victims and survivors of domestic violence with Day of Unity.

Kari Nelson is a survivor of domestic violence. She was a guest speaker at Friday’s event.
