Family Services will host a special screening of The Florida Project, a deeply moving and unforgettably poignant look at childhood, directed by Sean Baker that features 2018 Academy Award nominee Willem Dafoe.

Tickets are on sale now for the community event that will take place Thursday, October 25, 6:00pm at a/perture cinema.

Set over one summer, the film follows precocious six-year-old Moonee as she courts mischief and adventure with her ragtag playmates and bonds with her rebellious but caring mother, all while living in the shadows of Walt Disney World.

The film also unveils the challenges of poverty in the lives of children, parents and families. Family Services will pick up this theme in a facilitated discussion and conversation with:

Lia Erickson M.D.
Pediatrics Specialist, Novant Health Waughtown Clinic, and member of the Family Services Board of Directors

Victor Isler
Director of the Department of Social Services, Winston-Salem

Andrea Kurtz
Director of the 10-year Plan to End Homelessness, United Way of Forsyth County
